Law Enforcement
Despite police brutality or police incompetence being central to the events that unfolded, not much was said on the police themselves in news media. The conversations often steered towards condemnation of rioting, Black-Korean conflict, or other topics that distracted from the very key role police forces played. How were police or other law enforcement portrayed to the public? How were they portrayed in relation to the minority group that held so many grievances against them? In the context of the current surge of Black Lives Matter (as well as the Blue Lives Matter debate), how do these photos relate to the narrative of then and now?
